Unless it is a simple repair task such as replacing your filters, cleaning the condenser unit, or repairing insulation, it’s best to leave repairs to the professionals. Otherwise, you risk injuries such as shock and electrocution and can compromise your equipment’s efficiency and void your warranty.
Determining the right size system for your home involves knowing how many BTUs of heating and tons of AC you need which is determined by a variety of factors such as your home’s square footage, climate zone, ductwork, windows, insulation, etc. The best way to figure out what size you require is to have a professional technician visit your home and make a determination.
When it comes to water heaters, you can choose between tank heaters and tankless heaters. Tankless heaters are more energy-efficient as they do not use energy to constantly reheat your water in a tank. If you do opt for a tank water heater, the size of the tank will depend on how many people live in your home. Size isn’t as important for tankless water heaters but you need to pay attention to the flow rate which is measured in gallons per minute (GPM) – the bigger your home, the higher GPM you will need.
Blown-in insulation is more efficient than other types of insulation such as fiberglass because it is loose-fill insulation that has a higher R-value (how well a substance or material prevents the flow of heat in and out of the home). It is also easier and quicker to install than other forms of insulation.
Emitless understands its role when it comes to fighting climate change and reducing wear-and-tear on our infrastructure. For this reason, we are offering application assisstance for the Home Efficiency Rebate to do our part as well as help our customers save money on their energy bills.
Yes, because your home works as an entire system. Improving your home’s energy efficiency and reducing energy costs means ensuring that all parts are working together to maximize overall performance. For this reason, two upgrades are required to guarantee optimal energy efficiency.
Emitless works with service companies across the province and their representatives to deliver this program. Their agents are professionally trained to complete home energy assessments and are also available to answer any questions you may have.
Not necessarily but keep in mind that the upgrades must pass a final home energy assessment to ensure the work has made your home energy efficient. So while some upgrades are quick and easy, such as air sealing, bigger jobs should be done by a professional such as an AC replacement. Boiler, water heater, and furnace replacement can only be done by a licensed HVAC service technician.
Whether you are anxious to get started or need an upgrade completed right away, most of the service organizations we work with offer next-day appointments. To get the work done quickly, speak with one of our HVAC service experts and we can refer you to available energy advisors.
Unfortunately, the Home Efficiency Rebate is only available before starting any renovation work. This is because the program is designed to provide recommendations that will guarantee improved energy efficiency in your home and requires the completion of an initial home energy assessment. Any upgrades that are completed prior to the assessment are not eligible for the rebate.
The home energy assessment costs $600 upfront but is reimbursed when you receive your final rebate cheque (as long as the assessment was completed no earlier than June 3, 2021).
The amount you receive for the rebate depends entirely on the upgrades you complete in your home. For example, upgrading your exterior wall insulation will yield a larger rebate than sealing the cracks around your doors and windows.
Standard/mid efficiency equipment that is upgraded to high efficiency has usually qualified for the Home Efficiency Rebate. Every application is unique and requires review from an experienced Emitless Team Member.
Absolutely! You can participate in both programs. However, you cannot receive the same rebates for the same qualifying improvements. For example, if you upgrade your furnace and your windows to receive the Home Efficiency Rebate, you cannot claim these upgrades to receive the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is offered by the federal government and is not a program associated with Emitless. In essence, qualifying for the grant is a similar process to qualifying for the Home Efficiency Rebate.
